WhatsApp Introduces Music to Status Updates
WhatsApp has launched a new feature that allows users to add songs to their Status updates. This update, introduced on Friday, lets users include short music clips, bringing a nostalgic feel similar to the Myspace era.
Status works like Instagram Stories, enabling users to share photos, videos, and text that disappear after 24 hours. With this new feature, users can tap on a music note icon while creating a Status update. They can select from millions of songs and post music clips lasting up to 15 seconds for photos and 60 seconds for videos.

Similar to Instagram but with Added Privacy
This update follows Meta’s move to bring music features to Instagram, allowing users to add songs to profiles, Notes, and posts. However, WhatsApp’s music feature differs in a key way: It offers end-to-end encryption. This means only the user’s friends can see the songs shared on their Status, and even WhatsApp cannot access them.
How to Use the New Music Feature
To add music to a Status update, users need to:
- Open WhatsApp and navigate to the Status tab.
- Tap on the “+” icon to create a new Status.
- Select the music note icon.
- Browse or search for a song from the available library.
- Choose a 15-second clip for a photo or a 60-second clip for a video.
- Adjust the section of the song if needed.
- Post the Status update.
Users can also add captions, stickers, or text overlays to personalize their music posts further.
Global Rollout Underway
WhatsApp has started rolling out this feature worldwide. Availability will continue to expand over the coming weeks, allowing more users to enhance their Status updates with music.
As this feature reaches more users, WhatsApp may introduce additional improvements, such as expanded song libraries, longer music clips, and integration with more streaming services.
